ACC
No matter where, when or whose fault it is, all accidents that occur here in New Zealand are eligible for some cover from ACC.
This may range from subsidized physio sessions, funded braces and shoes to allow you to continue with your daily activities to fully funded wrap around support from a multidisciplinary team depending on the extent of the injury.
We are registered ACC providers and can help you to make sure you are receiving the most appropriate support for your injury.
For basic strains and sprains, you physio will assess you at your initial appointment and create a treatment plan for you. The aim is to get you back to 100% - able to do all the things you could do before your injury. This is often initially focused on pain and symptom management, followed by guided and individualised exercises to regain strength and function. Treatment of these injuries may take up to 6 weeks and you ACC will help pay for part of the appointment (co-payment scheme).
For injuries that keep you from being able to fully participate at work, whether it was a workplace injury or not, your physio may suggest a ‘stay at work’ or ‘back to work’ program. This may include physiotherapy input to improve your function, occupational therapy support to help you to best set up your work environment, or a vocational consultant where CV support or career change and training may be necessary.
If you have had a significant injury that has seriously reduced your independence and negatively impacted your ability to participate in everyday life and it is likely to take a while to recover your physio can discuss whether a ‘training for independence program’ may be suitable for you. This is appropriate when you may need physio, occupational therapy, dietician, speech language therapy, or counselling support because of your injury to enable you to get back to important and meaningful activities in your daily life.
If you have pain because of injury that has been present for longer than 3 months and has become unmanageable a ‘pain service’ program may be right for you. The first step is a triage appointment with you physio who can then give recommendations for support including review from a pain medical specialist, pharmacist support, psychologist assessment and further physiotherapy treatment.
From a basic ankle sprain to persistent pain from serious injury that has been present for years, we would love to meet with you and together build a plan to help support you to get back to the meaningful things in your life.
